My Gastein experience
They majestically rise into the sky and define the landscape: the mountains of Gastein. They set the scene for unforgettable ski days, offer a retreat for quiet summit moments and become an adventure playground for active summer getaways.
Above all, it’s the ski mountains that make Gastein one of the Alps’ most diverse winter sports regions. In summer, too, the alpine landscape delights with impressive perspectives and countless ways to explore.
Whether it’s Stubnerkogel, Fulseck or Schlossalm: Many peaks can be reached comfortably with the cable cars all year round. That means your alpine adventure starts in the most relaxed way possible – whether you’re heading out for skiing or early winter mountain carting or exploring the region’s panoramic trails and routes in summer.
When winter arrives, Gastein turns into an alpine paradise for snow sports fans. At the heart of it all are skiing and snowboarding. Four ski areas, more than 200 kilometres of slopes and an impressive altitude of up to 2,650 metres promise varied days on the slopes – from relaxed and scenic to sporty, from family-friendly to high-alpine.
If you prefer to experience the mountains in a different way, cross-country skiing, freeriding and ski touring offer powerful nature moments and athletic challenges. For an extra dose of variety and adrenaline, try early winter mountain carting at Fulseck adventure mountain – a fast-paced alternative to classic skiing fun.
As the snow melts away, the Gastein mountains reveal their lush, green side – full of variety and possibilities. Now, hiking takes centre stage. From easy panoramic walks and scenic high-altitude routes to more demanding trails, the Gastein valley offers something for every taste and fitness level. Beyond classic hiking paths, trail running and mountain carting on Fulseck add even more summer highlights.
And the best part: In summer, the cable cars take you comfortably to some of the most beautiful starting points.
In the Gastein valley, every summit offers a new perspective. Stubnerkogel impresses with spectacular viewpoints, while Schlossalm charms with its wide-open alpine pastures. Families will love Fulseck, and Graukogel is the perfect retreat for nature lovers. Gamskarkogel – Europe’s highest grass-covered mountain – stands out for its unspoilt character, while the high valley of Sportgastein delivers a truly striking backdrop. Whichever adventure mountain you choose, Gastein promises alpine experiences in every season.
