Art belongs to Bad Gastein like the imposing mountains and the magnificent Belle Époque buildings. Bad Gastein has always exerted a great attraction on artists and art lovers. No wonder, then, that an excellent art and culture festival has established itself here with sommer.frische.kunst. You can expect an exciting program with top-class, well-known and up-and-coming young artists.
In the historic power plant at the waterfall, various different artistic positions are presented on 3 floors and made publicly accessible to a wide audience. A variety of exhibitions can be visited on the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Promenade art mile. The Art Trail presents art in public space.
Art needs its space, its freedom - and this is what artists have enjoyed in Gastein for many years. Andrea von Goetz is the artistic director of sommer.frische.kunst. If you would like to know more about the curator 's work, you can read an interview on the Gastein Blog .
The exhibition openings will take place in the Pavilion, on the Kaiser Wilhelm Promenade. A subsequent get-together makes a lively exchange of artists and art enthusiasts possible.
During art:badgastein, a rich portfolio of contemporary artists* is presented in the galleries of the historic power station, on the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Promenade art mile and in public spaces. The exhibition rooms in the power station at the waterfall are occupied by twelve galleries. Away from the big art fairs in the metropolises, the main aim of art:badgastein is to facilitate a special exchange between artists, collectors and galleries.
This programme offers aspiring young artists free space for their creative work through studio spaces in the old power plant.
Inspired by the magical power of the waterfall and the imposing nature, artistic positions will emerge that are in dialogue with Bad Gastein.
Those interested in art can take part in the creative process of the young artists and visit them in their studios.
Open studios: Wednesday to Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Another exciting art weekend awaits visitors with the final presentation of the artists in residence in August.
The Art Trail presents art in public space. Since the start of the festival, the artists participating in the festival have left their mark. Both in public space and at selected historical sites that can be visited throughout the year.
With the Art Trail map , visitors interested in art can set out to discover the works of art embedded in the Gastein landscape.
Under the motto "Art makes you see. Discover your way", the festival sends its guests on a journey: in search of art and their very own, personal experience of art, and for the first time with an KunstWanderKarte, designed and illustrated by Sebastian Meschenmoser, one of the most narrative painters of his generation. With the KunstWanderKarte, 14 stations are hiked - from art in the village center to the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Promenade and all the way up to Sportgastein and the Stubnerkogel. There, among other things, the spectacular half-timbered sculpture "Harps" by Olaf Holzapfel awaits visitors.
The best offers, events, which you should not miss at all.
