Sportgastein already has sport in its name. And indeed, you can enjoy sporting activities here all year round, surrounded by majestic three-thousand-metre peaks. The high plateau at the head of the valley impresses in both summer and winter. The locals still know it as Nassfeld - here, where the sky kisses the peaks and the clear mountain air promises freedom, a unique nature experience opens up.
To the south , the imposing peaks of the Tauern main ridge draw their line into the sky, while the Geiselkopf fascinates with its striking double summit in the east . To the west , the mighty Murauerkogel rises like a guardian over the valley. A side valley - the Weißenbachtal - leads even further into the picturesque Carinthian Mallnitztal and makes hikers' hearts beat faster.
Take in the tranquillity of the mountains, feel the power of nature and recharge your batteries. Find your own personal summit happiness here in Salzburger Land.
Sportgastein invites you to join guided hikes that combine nature, knowledge and adventure - whether along crystal-clear mountain streams, to sparkling minerals or to the impressive Bockhart lakes. Those interested in technology and nature lovers will also get their money's worth when visiting the historic power station or talking to a national park ranger.
Among skiers and freeriders , Gastein's sportiest ski area has long been considered an open secret with plenty of deep snow and great ski routes. Not least because its high altitude means that it offers excellent snow conditions throughout the winter.
With its impressive altitude of 1,584 to 2,650 meters above sea level, it is the highest winter sports area in Ski amadé. A dream and the ideal starting point for freeriders and skiers, it is also the highest ski area in Salzburger Land that is not located on a glacier.
