The Felsenbad (now: Felsentherme) in Bad Gastein was designed by the Salzburg architect Gerhard Garstenauer in the style of Brutalism. Only 2 years passed from the first draft in summer 1966 until the first spa in Austria was ceremonially opened on September 28, 1968.
"In the Felsenbad, coal porters and plumbers discuss architecture - that means a lot in Austria," the press wrote at the time.
The ultra-modern ambiance between concrete and natural rock, as well as the demineralized thermal water without chemical additives, attracted many guests, making the facility a great success.
The Felsenbad was equipped with Space Age designed furniture and was published in trade magazines as far as Japan.
The building has been a listed monument since 2021, and the tour offers insights into areas that are otherwise not accessible.
