The Gastein Classics combine top sporting performance with the impressive backdrop of Sportgastein. Whether at the Bad Gastein ITT on Saturday or the Bad Gastein Criterium on Sunday - the enthusiasm for cross-country skiing can be felt in every second. The amateur races also offered thrilling moments, which were captured in our photos.
For the fourth time, the valley floor of Sportgastein provided an impressive backdrop and ideal conditions for top-class cross-country skiing as part of the Ski Classics. A total of 30 PRO teams and around 120 amateurs took to the start line on Saturday and Sunday in glorious conditions on the high-altitude trail in Sportgastein.
36-kilometer Criterium - fast-paced professional race in an impressive landscape
The 36-kilometre Criterium was held as a mass start race for men and women. The first sprint and mountain points of the season were awarded.
In this classification, in which men and women are judged together, the focus was clearly on team performance. In the end, Team Engcon, led by the two Ski Classics champions, the Norwegians Anikken Gjerde Alnæs and Ole Jørgen Bruvoll, came out on top and took victory. Olympic champion and cross-country skiing legend Petter Northug also took part in the Pro Team Tempo. The Norwegian finished seventh with his team "Burger King Northug" with a deficit of +2:26.7 and was delighted with the conditions.
