Winter hiking in Dorfgastein

Leisurely tour to the Kieserlbahn mountain station

From the Gipfelbahn Fulseck mountain station, a well-groomed winter hiking trail takes you along the mountain ridge to the Kieserlbahn cable car station. After walking 1.2 kilometres, you can treat yourself to a break at Restaurant Wolke 7. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a stunning 360-degree view of the surroundings.

Snowshoe route to Fulseck at 2,033 metres above sea level

The tour to Fulseck starts at the middle station, where you strap on snowshoes and head up towards the summit via Heumoosalm and Arltörl. This route spans 4.8 kilometres and climbs nearly 600 metres in elevation. Once you reach the peak, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking scenic views and a break at the cosy Gipflstadl restaurant.

Tip: Those who prefer a more relaxed winter hiking experience can take the cable car to the Fulseck mountain station. From there, it’s a gentle walk back down to the valley.

Challenging ascents

Ski touring in Dorfgastein

If you would like to climb the summit on skis – either part of or all the way – Dorfgastein offers two ski touring routes.

Ski tour from the middle station

The ST8 ski tour route starts at the middle station of the Gipfelbahn cable car with a descent. Via the D1c and the D8 Gruber Waldweg you reach the junction of the Heumoosalmweg in just a few minutes. Here it's time to "skin up". The ascent to the Heumoosalm leads along this wonderful forest path away from all the hustle and bustle. From there you continue to the Arltörl, the summer crossing point between the Grossarl and Gastein valleys. Along the mountain ridge with a fantastic 360° panorama, the tour then leads past the Kieserl and Wolke7 to the finish. After a total of 5.6 tour kilometers over 687 vertical meters you reach the Gipflstadl.

Ski touring evenings

The ski tour evenings take place every Thursday as soon as the valley run is open. The pistes between the valley and the Wengeralm are open until 9 pm on these days.

This makes it possible to climb up to the Wengeralm! Either the Reiterhütte or the Wengeralm or both are open for ski tourers on these evenings.

Active moments in the valley
