Duration: appx. 6 hours, ascent 720 m 3,5 h, descent 580 m 2,5 h
During this impressive hike, we encounter documentation of the history of gold mining, which reached its golden age in mid. 16th century in Bad Gastein. We take the bus to the tollbooth Sportgastein. The hiking path starts below the Gastein Healing Gallery in Böckstein and leads through a series of moderately steep hairpin bends up through Haitzingwald forest. The Hieronymushaus, which was built by the last ruling archbishop, Hieronymus Earl of Colloredo, fell victim to an avalanche in 1975. One can identify remnants of miners homes, preparation plants and pulley systems.
The attendance on the hike is free of charge with Gastein card. Bus- cable car and taxi charges are to pay. So are food and drink consumptions.
Top equipment and hiking boots are required.
