Get the Dudli...‘ said Joe Zawinul after Joris stood in for the ’Zawinul Syndicate" in 2002. Although after this statement a long list of ‘played with so and so’ should actually be over, a few more facts: Joris was a permanent member of the Vienna Art Orchestra and the Art Farmer Quintet from 1979 to 1985. After moving to the USA in 1986, he played and recorded with many of the world's greatest jazz musicians: Benny Golson, Curtis Fuller, Johnny Griffin, Mullgrew Miller, Clifford Jordan, Joe Lovano, Joe Henderson, Harold Mabern, Ralph Moore, Sonny Fortune and many more. His long-standing collaboration with altoist Vincent Herring received 4 stars in the renowned Downbeat magazine for the album SOUL CHEMISTRY. In 2021 he started the quintet ‘New York Jazz Partners’ with Jeremy Pelt, Wayne Escoffery and Eric Alexander, among others. This special septet project is a mixture of Dudli's European working band, his long-time partner, American star saxophonist Vincent Herring and a brand new face on the New York jazz scene, the very young Joey Curreri on trumpet. Dudli's melodic compositions are paired with adventurous playing and make a strong musical statement. With his new album ‘Boundaries Expanded’, Joris also shows that he has once again expanded his boundaries as an artist and has recently started interpreting one or two standards vocally.
