Whether you’re travelling by car or opting for the eco-friendly train: Your journey to Dorfgastein promises to be both smooth and enjoyable. On site, the local hiking bus in summer and the ski bus in winter make getting around a breeze.

Travelling by car

For guests travelling by car, Dorfgastein is readily accessible via well-maintained motorways and roads. From Vienna, you can travel to the charming resort via the A1 and A10 motorways. Coming from Munich, you would use the A8, followed by the A10. Exit at the Pongau/Bischofshofen junction from either direction.

Ample parking is available on site, ensuring easy access to the town centre and its various leisure and recreational amenities.

Travelling by train

Located along the Tauern railway line, Dorfgastein enjoys superb rail connectivity. Direct train connections are available from Eastern Austria, Germany via Salzburg and Italy via Villach. The Dorfgastein train station is a mere five-minute ride from the town centre and can be reached quickly by public transport or taxi.

Getting around on site

Travelling by bus in Dorfgastein

Dorfgastein’s well-organised local bus service allows you to leave your car parked at home or at the hotel. In the winter months, the ski bus directly services the Gipfelbahn Fulseck valley station. Day guests travelling by train from Salzburg like to use this option to get from the train station to the cable cars & lifts.

Bus route 550 takes guests to selected locations in Gastein all year round. In the summer, it becomes a hiking bus, taking hikers to the Gipfelbahn Fulseck valley station from 25 May 2024 through autumn. Convenient perk for Gastein Card holders: Adults only pay 1.50 euros per trip, and children just 70 cents.

Free public transport for ski guests visiting from the province of Salzburg 

Salzburger Verkehrsverbund (“Salzburg Transport Association”) and Dorfgasteiner Bergbahnen have teamed up to offer a fantastic deal: With a valid ski pass, you enjoy complimentary public transportation from anywhere in the province of Salzburg. This offer also extends to travellers from Spittal an der Drau and St. Johann in Tirol.
