Gastein is ready to swing - March is high season for jazz in Gastein Valley
The international jazz festival "Snow Jazz Gastein" has been a highlight of the calendar for jazz fans since 2002.
Every year, all of Gastein swings in keeping with a different motto. In the valley and even up in the mountains. With the magical scenery of the Hohe Tauern mountains providing the backdrop, jazz bands perform on terraces outside Gastein's ski huts. The locations for their evening gigs have also been cleverly chosen. Where better for a major part of the festival to take place than the old sawmill in Bad Hofgastein, lovingly transformed several years ago into the "Sägewerk" jazz club by Sepp Grabmaier. The club is also visited by greats from the jazz and cabaret scene throughout the rest of the year as well.
Aside from focusing on special themes ("Brass Fantasy", "String things" or "Off beat"), in recent years the festival has also paid attention to artists from specific nations, reflected in such mottos as "Bella Italia", "Big Apple - music of NYC" and "Goes East".
