On 21 July 2018, the Alpen Arena will be transformed into an operatic stage. Star tenor Juan Diego Flórez and Philharmonie Salzburg will bring a touch of the Vienna State Opera, the Met and La Scala to Gastein.
Juan Diego Flórez is one of the leading tenors of our day. No other embodies to such perfection the art of Bel Canto and the beauty of Italian opera, represented in this production by the likes of Rossini, Verdi and Donizetti. Unlike any other tenor, Flórez is able to lend his extraordinary voice to their lyrics and melodies.
Together with Philharmonie Salzburg under the baton of Christopher Franklin, this summer will the Alpen Arena in Bad Hofgastein become an international operatic venue. The ambience of the Alps meets Italian opera, sung by a world star of classical music.
Juan Diego Flórez is an Austro-Peruvian opera singer, generally regarded as the leading representative of the rare, and very difficult "tenore di grazia" in the world today. Flórez was born in 1973, studying music in his home city of Lima and at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. In 1996, he gave his official debut performance at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, where his impressive voice and astonishing agility made him an overnight sensation, taking him in the same year, at the age of just twenty-three, to the stage of La Scala in Milan. Since then, he has appeared regularly with the world’s best conductors and on the most renowned operatic stages (Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, Semperoper).
His repertoire comprises 46 operas, celebrating his most resounding successes and rapturous public acclaim in roles by Rossini, Donizetti and Bellini. As a world-class bel canto tenor, since 2001 Juan Diego Flórez has released numerous albums on CD and DVD, both as a solo artist as well as a member of operatic ensembles; many of these have won prizes, including Germany’s “Echo” and the Cannes Classical Award.
Philharmonie Salzburg was founded in 1998 by conductor Elisabeth Fuchs, and has played its way into the hearts of audiences ever since. The unique enthusiasm & dedication of the musicians makes the concerts performed by Philharmonie Salzburg truly incomparable. With refreshingly new interpretations of classical masterpieces, liberated from the dust they had gathered over the centuries. Philharmonie Salzburg’s program is characterized by unconventionality, cross-over projects (e.g. “Mozart goes Jazz”, “Maria Bill sings Edith Piaf”, "Symphonic Klezmer", "Tango-pure with Quadro Nuevo") and performances of rarely heard works (e.g. Schmidt’s “Book of the Seven Seals”, Bernstein’s “Mass”). Furthermore, the orchestra injects exceptional passion into its interpretations of film music, Broadway and symphonic pop.
Time and again, extraordinary projects result from connections forged with other art forms, the Philharmonie sharing the stage, for example, with a breakdance group or performing film music live to silent movies such as “The New Babylon” and “Metropolis”. Gastein’s Summer Concert Series 2018 will include children’s concerts, the opening concert "Swing in the Spring" and much more.
VIP seating is available for this production in the first few rows right in front of the stage. A special VIP reception will be hosted in the Kursaal, with direct access to the concert venue. Here, we will raise our glasses in anticipation of the memorable concert experience we are about to enjoy. A warm buffet (from 5 until 8 pm) featuring regional specialties promises a treat for the taste buds as well. All beverages during the evening (beer, wine and alcohol-free) are also included. As you see, this VIP package guarantees pure joy for the ears and palate alike (299 € per person).
Tickets in categories VIP (299 €) A (131 €), B (101 €), C (91 €) and D (81 €) are available from the tourist office in Bad Hofgastein, from all Raiffeisenbank branches as well as online at www.oeticket.com.
