Nassfelder Almfest in Sportgastein

At the Nassfelder Almfest, the high plateau is transformed into a stage for joyous celebration.

All of the area's mountain huts invite guests to join in the celebrations. Guests and locals alike enjoy music, dance and an array of mouthwatering foods.

Homemade Foods from the Hill Country

In the summer months, you should definitely plan a visit to Sportgastein. Especially during Almfest in August. At all huts in the area, they will be serving their guests drinks along with a delicious selection of homemade products. Bacon and cheese, butter and bread provide the energy boost you are looking for. Accompanied by a glass of buttermilk and a shot of home-distilled schnapps "to aid digestion". Treat yourself to "sinful" pastry desserts, as you discover the delectable wonders of Gastein cooking during Almfest.

Music and dance in Nassfeld

No celebration at a mountain hut would be complete without live music. Folk melodies and yodels will echo out from every hut across the high plateau in Nassfeld, encouraging everyone to get up off their seat and discover their inner dancing star! Saturday from 12 p.m. you will see performances by the “D´Hüttenkogla” folk-costume group, just one more example of how vibrant folk traditions continue to be in Gastein.

Celebrations inside Hohe Tauern National Park

There is so much to experience over the entire Almfest weekend. The Goldbergbahn lifts will be running, carrying you up the Kreuzkogel between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Nassfeld looks so impressive from up there. Or, why not combine your weekend in Sportgastein with something educational: Take a walk along the National Park Theme Path or participate in a guided Mineral Hike, which takes place on both days. During a tour of the Sportgastein power station or as you try panning for gold, you will learn a lot more about the history of Gastein Valley.

Guided Mineral walk: saturday and sunday, from 11 a.m. Meeting place at the mineral stand at the entrance of the valley.

Gold panning: saturday and sunday, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. (4 € p.P.).

TIP: Leave your car on the parking lot and ride the bus to Sportgastein. On both days, the No. 550 bus runs from Sportgastein until 6:30 p.m. However, if you prefer to take your car, you will enjoy a discounted toll fee on Gastein Alpine Road of just € 4 per person.
