Opening Concert with Sir Henry de Winter and piano player Nobuo Watanabe

Singer Henry de Winter was born in Berlin in 1959. His musical talent was evident from an early age, as he performed in the Christmas Oratorio in the famous village church in Alt-Lankwitz at the age of six.

From 1967 to 1971, de Winter was educated at a boarding school in London, after which he completed his schooling in Berlin. Throughout his time at school, he was involved in various choirs and performed there as a soloist time and again. The period of the 1920s and 1930s fascinated Henry de Winter so much that he adapted his appearance to this time - both professionally and privately. Music always remained his main concern. He took singing lessons with Eddy Rhein and joined the ‘Elite - Künstlerorchester’ as a singer in 1992. In 1993, he began working with the well-known DEFA composer Peter Gotthart (music for Puhdys ‘Wenn ein Mensch lebt’ from the film ‘Die Legende von Paul und Paula’) and his Tonfilm Orchester Berlin. In the following years, the collaboration resulted in the CDs ‘Vol. 1 - The Unknown Recordings’, ‘Vol. 2 - Die Stimme eines Herrn’ and ‘Vol. 3 - My Ladies’, as well as the video ‘You Are My Lucky Star’.

Since 1998, de Winter has performed with various orchestras, including the ‘Bratislava Hot Serenaders’ and the ‘Swing Dance Orchestra’. Henry de Winter is also a popular entertainer at galas and other events in a ‘small line-up’ with his wonderful pianist Jürgen Pfeiffer and occasionally with his dog ‘Bobby’.

Sir Henry, as friends and admirers call him, also appeared in the revue ‘Der verrückte Salon’ at the Renaissance Theatre. He became known to German-speaking audiences in Bernd Michael Lade's crime thriller ‘Ein ehrenwertes Haus’ (1995). Volker Schlöndorff was so enthusiastic about de Winter that he engaged him for a short appearance in his film ‘Der Unhold’ (1996) alongside John Malkovich and Gottfried John. In 1998, he also appeared in Wilfried Herbst's film ‘Die Friseuse und der Millionär’. Henry de Winter has been an ‘overseas exceptional member’ of the Eccentric Club in London since May 2009!
