Although gold mining in Gastein has long since ceased, you can still try your luck today during a treasure hunt.

Behind Hotel Evianquelle in Böckstein there is a natural gold panning site as well as a gold panners cottage. A large shelter with gold washing throughs was also built, to enble gold panning also in rainy weather. For a small fee, you will get a pair of gold panners boots, a gold mining bowl as well as a vial in order to collect the gold.
