Llama Trekking in Gastein Valley, Austria

Hiking over the Alps with animals from the Andes

A great tip for families is a llama hike in the midst of Gastein's idyllic alpine landscapes. After a short initial briefing and an introduction into how to treat these pack animals, we will saddle up these rare animals ( at least here in the Alps) and load them up with our backpacks. Together with expert guides, we then begin a leisurely stroll along traditional alpine paths. Time on trail: about 2 hours.

In summer, the llamas live at the Riedl Alm, which can be reached in a 1.5-hour hike from the Breitenberg, Bad Hofgastein. Once up there, you can enjoy some hearty hill-country cooking before setting out with the llamas on your hike.
