The ARt on Snow, in the capacity as biggest arts festival of the Alps with respect to winter sports comes closer and with over 30 artists and a chock-full program it will be THE art event of the winter season. On the first of the nine event days there is already a banger waiting for the visitors: on Saturday, 4 February 12 artists will fight against each other at the Rapid Flows Marker Battle in the Silver Bullet Bad Gastein to convince the jury with their freshly painted artworks. The winners will be celebrated at the following ARt on Party.
The premiere in the Gastein Valley was definitely successful. Already on the first weekend of the ARt on Snow the hosts of the event could welcome a thrilled audience. No wonder as the visitors could on the one hand see many different artworks, styles and techniques and on the other hand they could meet the creators of the pieces and get to talk to them. In the Grand Hotel Europe (Wiener Saal) Bad Gastein, in the Tennishalle Klammer’s Kärnten and in the Festsaal Dorfgastein the exhibitors were ready to answer all questions about their work. And what the 30 international artists brought to the Gastein Valley is really worth a visit. Not only the first class art but also various side-events make the ARt on Snow a non-humdrum art event.
Right at the opening of the art festival the Rapid Flows Marker Battle took place in the Silver Bullet Bad Gastein. 12 artists fought for the jury’s favour in a given time limit, only “armed” with three markers. After an exciting final Heiko from “110specialblack” came off as winner and could skim the 500 euros of prize money. At the following ARt on Party all artists and the start of the art festival itself have been celebrated duly. For three marker artists the night was a bit shorter as they got the chance to paint the panes of three mountain railway gondolas in Dorfgastein on Sunday morning.
Art made of snow and art directly on snow has been created in the Gastein ski areas on the first weekend of the ARt on Snow, too. Fascinating snow and ice sculptures grace the summit plateau of the Fulseck and are to be seen at the mountain stations of the Goldbergbahn and the Schlossalmbahn. The current temperatures will care for a long conservation.
At the end of the first weekend the nostalgia ski show took place in Dorfgastein on Sunday evening. Despite the crisp cold and almost frozen breath many visitors came to attend this spectacular night-event.
During the whole week a multifaceted program will take place beside the exhibitions. True ski film classics can be watched at a movie time travel through the history of winter sports in Dorfgastein. Special flicks of the actual season will be shown on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 February open air in Bad Hofgastein.
The final of the one-week art festival will be celebrated at the ARt of(f) Party in the Reginoa Club in Bad Gastein on Saturday evening.
There is still time left: the exhibitions with over 30 international artists like Yuliia Koval and Petros Sianos, 110specialblack, Alex Papis, Jerome Tanon, Björn Hartweger, LOSLOHBROS, NIGS534 and the ARt on Snow rookie Sophia Metzler will be open until 10 (Wiener Saal) respectively 12 February 2012.
