And with them, of course, come all those home-produced treats which are simply waiting for you to discover at Gastein’s 55 mountain inns! 350 kilometres of hiking trails offer a broad range of opportunities for families with children, as well as for all fans of the high-Alpine countryside.
So, what are you in the mood for today? To hike all the way from the valley in search of a mountain peak to conquer? Or would you prefer to ride a mountain lift and float up to those airier elevations? No matter what, be sure not to forget your binoculars! For today your lens could well come to rest on an ibex or marmot, on vultures or eagles! TheHohe Tauern National Park provides a protected habitat for a variety of animal species.
Explore the high country via trails once used by gold miners, or ride by horseback along paths formerly travelled by mule packers.
